So at this point in the summer, I'm basically a crazy person living in the woods. For those of you who may not follow my Facebook updates, here's a little rec-cap.
I am spending the summer working as a cook in a tree planting camp in British Columbia, Canada.
What is a tree planting camp you may ask?
Well it's essentially a group of about 60 of the most interesting group of people you can imagine who have given up 'normal' life for the next few months in order to work one of the most miserable jobs imaginable; planting trees.
And I am their cook.
Well actually one of their cooks. I cook supper. So here is an outline of some things I've done:
1) I cut off all of my hair. It was a rash decision, but it's something I've always wanted to do and since I'm spending the foreseeable future either in the woods, I figured now was the time.
This is how I felt about the hair cut on the first day:
And this is how I'm starting to feel:
With my job comes MUCH chopping. Here are some of the vegetables I had to prep for ONE meal!
This was the meal, Chicken Stir Fry
This is my co-worker, Cat. I say co-worker, but in actual fact she works morning and I'm afternoons so we technically don't work together at all....
This is my camp site at the camp we're in currently. It's nice to have the tent, but it still gets pretty cold (and rainy) at night so I have retreated back to the RAV more than once!
And now, a montage of some of the food....
Mac n Cheese |
Meatloaf |
Homemade frozen yogurt! (Kind of...) |
Some peppers |
One of the best things I've made, "Cheesy Whole Wheat Garlic Bread" |
I have some LONG days, and some rough ones, but at the end of the (very long) days, I can assure myself that it's all worth it, because this job is going to allow me to spend another year in Cochabamba and that is invaluable to me!
Stay tuned for more pictures!
